Selfish sewing: Louisa dress

January 20, 2016 Mon P'tit Coeur 2 Comments

Selfish sewing, oh God, we do love it. ;)

I first met the Louisa dress from Companie M. for kids and knew this would be a winner for Jade. It was one of the first dresses I made for her and I really hadn't that much experience at the time. The clear instructions, which we are used to, from Marta guided me effortlessly to a beautiful Louisa. The dress is almost too small so I have to sew a new one. This time it was a selfish sewing project and oh God, we do love it.

I was ecstatic when I learned that Marte created this pattern for adults as well and would be soon available. You can image I didn't hesitate a second to purchase it when it did.

The kangaroo pocket is very characteristic for the Louisa dress and I do love this detail. I had to have it for my louisa.

The dress is fully lined with a light cotton fabric as the main fabric is quite light and fragile. Oh well, it's another excuse to make another Louisa and we don't mind at all, right ladies?

My preference goes to the cap sleeves instead of the three quarter ones. It's pleasant to wear when it's warm and easy to combine with a vest on colder days.

Super mom!

Yes, the Louisa is a perfect dress for this super mom!

A lot of fun assured taking the pictures with my favorite photographer whilst the kids are acting crazy on the background. Apparently I was a bit distracted when my husband calibrated the flash, chose the right lens and took a couple of snap shots. I actually do like the picture so I decided to share it with you.

Yes, this dress is a real topper and one of my favorites. I assure you many Louisas will follow for both Jade and me.

Fancy foxes

January 12, 2016 Mon P'tit Coeur 0 Comments

When I saw a fabric with little foxes during a garage sale at Liesellove I instantly knew it would be a gorgeous shirt for Sean. When you say shirt, you automatically think of Theo from Zonen09.

It was the first time I was going for a shirt and I had my reservations. Totally unjustified so it seemed. The pattern is a joy to make and the detailed instructions guided me effortlessly through the sewing process to a perfect Theo.

I immediately started sewing the Theo since I gave myself a deadline. Otherwise I would've been able to use the excuse that I had too little time. I'm sure you know that feeling.
You can imagine the joy I felt when the shirt was finally finished. My little man gleamed in this new fancy foxes Theo. And did he steal the show on New year's day.

It's the first but certainly not the last shirt I will make for Sean. Needless to say I already have two other fabrics I want to turn into a Theo.

For this version I opted for the short sleeves and ecru paspel at the back. The contrasting corners and the breast pocket were not used this time but I will certainly incorporate it in a next version.

Kerstcadeautjes made with love

January 03, 2016 Mon P'tit Coeur 1 Comments

When the year-end holidays are upon us, there's always people who need to go last minute gift-shopping. I'm not one of them. :)

Throughout the year I always listen carefully to get my ideas and buy my gifts quite early. That helps avoiding that rush at the end of the year and start and make it through the holidays 'Zen'. Added advantage is that I manage to pick things where I can really make someone happy with and they're not 'just another gift'.

This year however I did face a recurring issue. My stepfather really isn't easy when it comes to buying a gift. You might know the phenomenon: someone who really has everything he needs and if he misses something, he just goes out and buys it. My stepfather is one of those people, so what do you get that sweet man?

Some time ago I bought this canvas fabric from Liesellove. Initially I didn't really know what to do with it until that figurative light bulb went on. Why not make some pillows out of it for the sofa?

Out of a piece of fabric of 1m by 1m50 I just got two 50x50 pillows and one 40x40. I finished them off with black piping and a blind zipper.

My stepfather was over the moon with them. The best compliment I got was that he asked me where I had bought them. As a seamstress I really can't think of a better compliment. :)

For my mommy-dearest I know right off the mark what to make: a Julia sweater. At Bambiblauw I saw this sparkly sweater fabric and I was sold immediately.

It's not easy to make something for someone when you can't get their exact measurements however. I had to put my faith in going with my mum's confection size and it turned out that for this pattern it was the right guess. I did opt for the wide neck since that's what looks best on her.

I am however going to make the sleeves slightly wider next time I make it. Just like me, my mum has the habit of pulling her sleeves up a bit but because this sweater isn't stretch-fabric it doesn't really allow for it. Nevertheless, this present was a bullseye too.
