Na Jade de honeybee kon Sean moelijk achterblijven. Dat hij als een piraat verkleed wou gaan, stond al héél vroeg vast. De laatste drie jaar wil Sean als piraat door het leven gaan tijdens carnaval. De recente show van Piet Piraat heeft dit enkel versterkt.

After having sewed Jade's honeybee dress I could hardly leave Sean in the cold. It was no longer a secret that he wanted to be a pirate at carnival. It has been this way for the last three years and the last Piet Piraat show only added to it.



Nu zat de naaistress wel echt in mij. Het giletje is een patroon van Burda. Een patroon naar mijn hart. Simpel, rechtuit, geen ingewikkelde constructies. Zo zien we het graag. Het zat echt op een wip in elkaar en tegen woensdagavond had onze kleine man al zijn piratenvest in de stijl van Jake the pirate.
Ja, het masker moet je er maar bijnemen. Een project op school. Doet me denken aan een gemaskerd bal. Sean the pirate op een gemaskerd bal... hihi...

As the carnival approached I really felt the stress to finish the costume on time. The vest is a Burda pattern and one I will use again. It's straightforward, simple and has little to no complicated constructions. Just the way we like it. I finished it in no time. By Wednesday evening our little man already had his pirate vest based on Jake the pirate's.
The mask is a school project. It reminds me of a masked ball. Sean the pirate on a masked ball... hihi...

Last minute besefte ik dat Sean geen bijpassende broek had. Die van vorig jaar, die hij trouwens het jaar ervoor ook droeg en op groei berekend was, kon hij dit jaar écht niet meer aan. Er zat niks anders op dan de donderdagavond nog een broek in elkaar te naaien.

Quite last minute I realised Sean didn't have any matching pants. The ones he wore last year, and the year before which was sewn on growth, didn't fit anymore. Basically there was nothing left than sewing a new pair of pants the evening before carnival.

Ik gebruikte het patroon van de Hudson pants. Natuurlijk had ik niet meer gerekend op de zakken die deel uitmaken van het voorpand. Na wat vloeken vlug wat geïmproviseerd en in een mum van tijd zat die broek in elkaar. De enkelboorden heb ik achterwege gelaten. Het voor- en achterpand werd met 6cm verlengd en een klassieke zoom werd toegepast. De zoon kon in stijl als piraat naar school. :D

I decided to go with the Hudson pants pattern I already used before. Naturally I didn't take into account that the pockets are part of the front side. After some cursing and improvising the pants were ready in no time. The calf cuffs were replaced by elongating the front and backside with 6cm. Our son was ready to go to school in style as pirate.
